Who Wants To Draw Hundreds Of Visitors To Their Community?:
State Looking For Year 2006
Alice in Dairyland Host City

MADISON (Nov. 4, 2004) - The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer is seeking a group of civic-minded community leaders interested in hosting the selection of the 2006 Alice in Dairyland in their county.

"The selection of Alice in Dairyland typically draws hundreds of visitors to a community and gives organizers an opportunity to promote local industry and attractions," said Natalie Parmentier, marketing consultant and herself a former Alice. "Best of all, there's lots of support out there to help make the event a huge success."

2006 will mark the selection of the state's 59th Alice in Dairyland, a tradition deeply rooted in Wisconsin's agricultural heritage. The woman selected as Alice in Dairyland serves for one year as the state's agricultural ambassador. Organizers of recent Alice finals say the event has been good for their counties.

"The attention we received allowed us to highlight many of our agricultural, retail, and tourism businesses. Very influential leaders - from our city mayors to state politicians to county board leaders - attended the event and learned more about the importance of agriculture in Wisconsin," said Mary Dunn, committee chair for the 2004 Alice Finals in Iowa County.

Bill Weiland is the committee chair for the 2005 Alice Finals to be held Taylor County in May.

"I'm looking forward to the extensive media coverage that we expect to generate in connection with hosting the Alice Finals, " he said. "It will be an effective means to highlight our major industries and points of interest in northern Wisconsin. What a great opportunity to bring publicity and revenue to our community."

Counties interested in hosting the 2006 Alice in Dairyland Finals should contact Laurie Steigenberger, Alice in Dairyland Coordinator, at 608-224-5128 or send an email to laurie.steigenberger@datcp.state.wi.us for details on the Alice finals program and how to apply.

Representatives from the selected county will be invited to attend the 2005 Alice finals in Taylor County on May 19-21, 2005, as a kick-off to their hosting responsibilities for the upcoming year. Those counties not selected to host in 2006 will be considered for future years.
