African-American and Latino
Leaders Support Kerry Campaign
(Madison, WI) - John Kerry announced the endorsement February 1st of several key Africa-American and Latino community leaders in Milwaukee. MPS Board Vice-President Charlene Hardin, MPS Board Member Jennifer Morales and Ald. Marlene Johnson-Odom are all supporting John Kerry’s campaign for president. They join other prominent community leaders such as Rev. Harold Moore in backing Kerry’s bid.
“John Kerry has put forward a detailed agenda for strengthening our cities,” said Hardin. “His Urban Plan lays out a solid foundation for investment in our communities, from schools to health care to jobs. I believe John Kerry is the best leader in the fight to give America back its future.”
Morales noted Kerry’s long-standing support for public education. “John Kerry has stood tall for our public schools throughout his career. He will get our schools the resources they need to close the achievement gap and prepare our kids for the future. He has true integrity and will keep his promise to the children of Milwaukee and America to fund their education.”
Ald. Johnson-Odom, the longest-serving member of the Common Council, noted Kerry’s strong record on civil rights issues. John Kerry has supported every major piece of civil rights legislation since he took office in 1985, and has a 100% voting record from the NAACP in the 107th Congress.
Earlier this month, Kerry came from behind to win the Iowa caucuses, and won the New Hampshire primary this week by a large margin over his opponents.. The Kerry campaign is building strength and momentum as the February 17th Wisconsin primary approaches, thanks to the support of local leaders like Hardin, Morales and Johnson-Odom.
“I am grateful for the support of these outstanding Milwaukee community leaders,” said Kerry. “They believe, as I do, that cities like Milwaukee are rich in the diversity that makes our nation strong, help drive our economy, and nurture our culture. My Administration will celebrate, strengthen, and enhance our urban communities by getting our economy back on track, investing in our people, strengthening our communities, and providing fiscal relief to cities and states.”
