Wisconsin Congressional Representative Keeps Seat:
Sensenbrenner Continues
As House Judiciary Chair

WASH. DC ( Jan. 8, 2005)  - Menomonee Falls Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner announced today that he was re-elected as Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee for the 109th Congress, which ends January 3, 2007.

The Judiciary Committee has jurisdiction over a wide range of issues that include law enforcement and the Federal Criminal Code, immigration and naturalization, bankruptcy law, legal reform (such as medical and product liability), as well as constitutional and federal civil rights.

"As Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, I have the privilege of being able to serve the Fifth District, as well as the entire nation," said Sensenbrenner. "But with this privilege comes a lot of work, and this will be a busy year for the Committee as I expect our plate to remain full throughout the session."

"Like I promised last month, we have already drafted legislation which includes a common sense provision to ensure that drivers' licenses are not issued to illegal aliens. In the spring, we will also deliberate over the anti-terrorism bill that Congress passed shortly after September 11 to protect our homeland."

"Moreover, the Committee will address legal reform issues in order to help keep healthcare expenses down, and minimize costs to consumers from frivolous lawsuits. My work on these matters has been consistently thwarted by the actions of a few Senators who see things differently. But in light of President Bush's press conference earlier today on class action and litigation reform, I hope to see better results this year so that taxpayers can stop getting fleeced by the actions of a few greedy personal injury lawyers."

"Chairing this Committee has already allowed me to end the Dairy Compact and the Internet Access Tax. I look forward to continue working on behalf of Wisconsinites this year, and I encourage my constituents to keep in touch with me to offer input on our progress," Sensenbrenner concluded.
