Wisconsin Good Samaritan Giving Shoes To Nigerian Boy Sparked Samaritan's Feet Idea
WISCREPORT.COM (04/05/2011) - A Good Samaritan from Wisconsin who gave a 9-year old boy in Nigeria a pair of shoes is credited with starting an idea that has led Buick to recently contribute 3,000 pairs of shoes and socks to an organization called Samaritans Feet. Milwaukee Brewers broadcaster Bob Uecker expressed thanks to fans and his doctors after being released from Milwaukee Froedtert Hospital Thursday, six days after a six hour heart surgery. WISCREPORT.COM (04/10/2010) - The University of Wisconsin - Madison will end its licensing agreement with Nike as a result of the company's failure to adequately address the problems caused by the closing of two Honduran factories. According to UW-Madison, displaced workers at the two plants should have been paid a combined 2 million dollars. Even though Nike did not own the factories, the UW is holding them to the UW Code of Conduct for the actions of subcontractors. However, there still has been only one death in Texas that has been attributed to the strain of flu virus that has caused illness in a large number of people in Mexico. So far Wisconsin seems to be spared from the CDC statistics, but there is news today that there may be two cases in Milwaukee. Meanwhile the ACLU has issued a caution. WISCONSINREPORT.COM (04/30/2009) - In response to an intensifying outbreak in the United States and internationally caused by a new influenza virus of swine origin, the World Health Organization raised the worldwide pandemic alert level to Phase 5 yesterday (April 29, 2009). Meanwhile, new U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius cautions people not to panic. Sebelius reminds people there are flu outbreaks every year and everyear there are some flu deaths. WISCONSINREPORT.COM (08/07/08) - New York Jets General Manager Mike Tannebaum has confirmed that the Jets have made a deal that brings former Packer Brett Favre to the Jets. In a conference call to the media, Tannebaum said he spoke with Favre about the prospect of joining the Jets and Brett, team management and Jets fans seem to be excited about the football icon becoming a Jet. Tannebaum explained that acquiring Brett Favre will mean that the Jets are likely to let Chad Pennington go. WISCONSINREPORT.COM (07/16/08) - Now that Miller Brewing Company and Coors have joined forces to become MillerCoors, changes were expected to take place, as is usually the case when two major companies merge. MillerCoors have announced that it is placing its headquarters in Chicago, but will maintain substantial operations in Golden, Colorado, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. MillerCoors will invest over $50 million into the brewery in Milwaukee over the next three years and increase the number of jobs at the brewery, even though headquarters office jobs will be lost to the city. WISCONSINREPORT.COM (05/02/08) - The University of Wisconsin - Madison Formula SAE team raced to first place at the inaugural Virginia International Raceway competition April 23-26. This was the first Formula SAE event to incorporate a road course that included significant elevation changes. The UW-Madison team, which received funding from the United Wisconsin Grain Producers, piloted its one-third-scale Indy-style car to victory while awing the spectators with unmatchable lap times. WISCONSINREPORT.COM (04/16/08) - Voters at this week’s Wisconsin Conservation Congress spring hearings approved the position of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau on all three questions of interest to farmers. The questions involved Deer Baiting and Feeding, Managed Forest Law Change, and Wolf Management. Citizens who attended April 14th hearings throughout the state supported the creation of a hunting season for wolves, banning deer baiting and feeding, and were against a proposal involving Managed Forest Land contracts that would essentially make it mandatory to allow public access to private lands. FSN Wisconsin will produce all of the 150 regular season telecasts, including the 15 over-the-air broadcasts on WMLW TV-41. WISCONSINREPORT.COM (12/13/07) - Current and former Major League Baseball players have been named in former Sen. George Mitchell's investigation into performance enhancing drugs in baseball. Mitchell held a news conference during which he made a few comments to reporters before releasing the names of many prominent Major League baseball figures who have been indicated as being involved in steroid or other performance enchancer use during their careers. The show airs live on weekdays from 5-9 am (CST) on WABC radio and is syndicated nationally. The morning show is simulcast on the RFD TV Network, and rebroadcast in the evening in primetime. WISCONSINREPORT.COM (11/28/07) - Hunters registered a preliminary total of 343,644 deer during Wisconsin’s regular nine-day gun deer season. Wildlife officials stress that this is a preliminary figure that will change somewhat. The 2007 harvest showed 125,060 bucks and 218,584 antlerless deer registered. This computes to a 6 percent increase in antlerless deer harvest and a 3.5 percent decline in buck harvest over 2006. WISCONSINREPORT.COM (11/27/07) - A new report by the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) indicates the Global Warming impacts on the Great Lakes will likely be increased unless inadequate regional water laws are strengthened to prevent water diversion. The report is called Climate Change and Great Lakes Water Resources. It warns that a warming climate is likely to reduce Great Lakes water supply while increasing water demand within the region. WISCONSINREPORT.COM (11/27/07) - When the Green Bay Packers play the Dallas Cowboys in a historic contest this week, most Packers fans will not be able to view the game on tv. The game between two teams with 10 wins and just one loss for the season will only be seen on the NFL Network. In most of Wisconsin, the NFL Network is only available by satellite. Wisconsin fans who have cable won't see the NFL Network, because some cable companies do not have an agreement to carry the network. A non-profit group called TV4US believes if the state assembly puts their approval on a senate bill called the Video Competition Act, the No-Packers dilemma could be eased for fans in the future. After a fast paced game, where the Denver Broncos seemed to shine more than many sports pundits expected, it looked like the Green Bay Packers might lose a game they were expected to win.
