The DOJ Office of Crime Victim Services Domestic Abuse Incident Report (DAIR) is compiled from data submitted by district attorneys' offices throughout the state and analyzes homicide statistics gathered by the Office of Justice Assistance. WISCREPORT.COM (11/17/07) - Thanksgiving is the peak day for home cooking fires, according to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA ). Hundreds of Americans are killed each year due to home cooking fires and thousands more are injured. Annually, cooking fires cause more than half a billion dollars in direct property damage to homes and the belongings inside. The Wisconsin Department of Commerce joins NFPA in encouraging the public to keep safety in mind when preparing holiday meals. WISCREPORT.COM (11/8/07) - Senator Julie Lassa (D – Stevens Point) has announced that Senate Bill 260, “Angie’s Law”, to strengthen the penalties for strangulation, received a public hearing in the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Corrections yesterday (11/7/07). “Angie’s Law” will strengthen the law to allow prosecutors to charge batterers with felonies instead of misdemeanors. WISCREPORT.COM (11/2/07) - The Wisconsin Court of Appeals has issed a decision that will help protect Wisconsin's children from victimization by adults. The Court of Appeals has held that the crime of interfering with child custody is committed by someone who causes a child to leave a parent, even if the child is not in the presence of the parent at the time the crime is committed. The state appellate court reached this conclusion in State of Wisconsin v. Isaiah Bowden, in which the court affirmed Bowden's Winnebago County convictions. (read more)...

WISCREPORT.COM - A state wide referendum, referred to as the Marriage Protection Amendment, is still causing a stir, even as voters go to the polls to settle the issue. Vote Yes for Marriage is claiming deceptive practices by the Fair Wisconsin group, which opposes the question.
