Petition Signatures Sought To Force Vote As 58 Percent Favor Wisconsin Gov. Walker Recall
WISCONSINREPORT.COM (11/16/2011) - Recall Wisconsin Republican Governor Scott Walker supporters are out in communities all over Wisconsin gathering signatures for a petition to kick start the recall election process. The We Are Wisconsin Executive Director says there are a thousand reasons why Walker should be replaced and that is what is prompting people to be part of the recall effort. Meanwhile, the Republican Party of Wisconsin has established a website to raise money for Walker to finance the campaign to fight the recall.
A Wisconsin Public Radio/St. Norbert College Survey was released the same day that Democrats, labor unions and others, angry over his moves to curb union rights, began circulating petitions to get the 540,000 signatures needed to force a recall election next year.
The poll showed that 58 percent of respondents believe Walker should be recalled from office. That compares with 47 percent who said in April that he should be recalled. The poll results shows that it's not just Democrats who are unhappy. There are a growing number of Republicans and those who voted for Walker who have also become disgruntled about Governor Walker taking Wisconsin down a street they don't believe in.
We Are Wisconsin Executive Director Kristen Crowell says, early November 15th, communities across Wisconsin engaged in a flurry of recall campaign activity.
“From petition-signing parties at locally owned businesses to in-home pajama parties, the people of Wisconsin have sent a strong message: We will not rest until this governor is recalled,” Kristen Crowell said.
According to We Are Wisconsin Executive Director Kristen Crowell, this level of political engagement is only the tip of the iceberg
We Are Wisconsin, a coalition of labor and other community groups, is planning a major rally for Saturday, November 19 at 11:00 a.m. on the State Street side of the State Capitol building. Wisconsinites from Superior to Kenosha are expected to attend to sign recall petitions, help the community through a canned food drive, and share their enthusiasm for the Recall Scott Walker campaign.
“Scott Walker has given Wisconsinites a thousand reasons to sign a recall petition. By hiking taxes on working families, gutting workers’ rights, and cutting school budgets, this governor has shown us time and again that the Walker way is not the Wisconsin way,” stated Crowell.
“From midnight recall petition gathering to the November 19 Recall Walker Kick Off Rally, we will continue to stand up for our Wisconsin,” Crowell said.
The We Are Wisconsin website is located at WeAreWisconsin.org. People who want to participate in gathering petition signatures can download petition copies at UnitedWisconsin.org, where there is also plenty of information about how the recall process works, etc.
There are a number of other places on the internet for people to gain more information about the Recall Scott Walker effort, one is simply, recallscottwalker.com. And, there are several others.
Meanwhile, Republican Party of Wisconsin Executive Director Stephan Thompson, has announced the official launch of www.standwithgovernorwalker.com, the official fundraising website for Governor Walker’s recall battle.
“Despite balancing a $3.6 billion budget deficit without raising taxes, enabling school districts and municipalities around the state to save millions of dollars, and moving the state forward under responsible leadership, Governor Walker is being attacked by Wisconsin Democrats and liberal special-interests, who are selfishly pursuing a baseless recall to regain political power," Wisconsin Republican Party Executive Director Stephan Thompson stated.
“The ‘Stand with Governor Walker’ website is the official financial initiative to combat the recall attempt, which is funded by Big Labor and national special interest groups," Stephan Thompson said.
"As Democrats try to play political games and waste millions of dollars, Governor Walker will continue his work improving Wisconsin’s economic climate for families around the state,” Thompson said.
As part of the Recall Walker Kick Off Rally on November 19 at the State Capitol, We Are Wisconsin has announced that it will participate in the Can Walker Food Drive sponsored by Teamsters Joint Council 39.
“With Thanksgiving right around the corner, we felt it was especially important to remember our fellow Wisconsinites in need,” said Beth Kirchman of Teamsters Local 662.
“From supporting our local food pantries to recalling a governor who attacks our rights, our jobs, and our quality of life, the members of Teamsters Joint Council 39 are doing our best to make Wisconsin a better place to live,” Kirchman said.
“Caring for our friends and neighbors in need is the Wisconsin Way,” added Kristen Crowell, Executive Director of We Are Wisconsin.
“By increasing taxes on low-income families, giving tax breaks to the wealthy, kicking tens of thousands off BadgerCare, and dozens of other mean-spirited policies, the governor shows us every day that the Walker Way is not the Wisconsin Way,” Crowell points out.
Crowell indicated that her organization was proud to help sponsor the food drive.
“We are confident that the thousands of Wisconsinites expected at the Recall Walker Kick Off Rally on November 19 will show the charity that we in the Badger State are famous for. Helping to feed families in need is just one more way that we are standing up for our Wisconsin,” We Are Wisconsin Executive Director Crowell said.
The recall effort that started November 15th has a deadline to collect over a half million valid signatures in order to authorize a recall election be held. At this writing, 58 days remain before the deadline.
