Republican Govs Assn Supports Gov. Walker Stand In Wisconsin
WISCONSINREPORT.COM (02/23/2011) - Some Republican Governors around the United States of America are urging their own form of solidarity behind fellow GOP Governor Scott Walker. The Republican Governors Association (RGA) is sponsoring a website suggesting it is a great idea to Stand With Scott in the battle of wills going on in the State of Wisconsin. RGA Chairman Rick Perry sees the Walker fight with Democrats, public workers, unions, and supporters, as a defining moment for the Conservative movement.
Fourteen Wisconsin Senate Democrats have left the state, refusing to allow themselves to be party to Senate Republicans putting a rubber stamp on a bill designed to force Wisconsin public employees to take what amounts to a pay cut, and, at the same time, take away public employee rights to Collective Bargaining in the future.
If the Senate Democrats are not present on the Senate Floor, the 19 Senate Republicans in the 33 seat Senate do not have a legal quorum, which means the vote cannot be recorded and the bill cannot pass. So, the Fab-14, as they have been designated on protest signs, have gone to neighboring Illinois, taking up lodging at undisclosed location(s), pending a change of heart by Governor Walker and his fellow Republicans in the Wisconsin Senate.
Supporters of the protest of thousands of people in the streets of Madison, Wisconsin, and on the internet, fear Governor Walker and Senate and Assembly Republicans stance threatens organized labor in not only the public worker arena but the private sector as well. The move, taking away Collective Bargaining, is looked at by protesters and supporters as an attempt to start "Union Busting" in Wisconsin, leading to the same in other states.
The Republican Governors Association has decided to come down on the side of newly elected fellow Republican Governor Scott Walker. One of the ways they are doing so is by sponsoring the Stand With Scott website.
"Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker is in the middle of what will be a defining moment for our country and the conservative movement. It is essential that we stand with Governor Walker and show political leaders throughout the country that America is ready to take on its toughest political challenges," RGA Chairman Rick Perry states on the website.
"Governor Scott Walker is taking the tough, but necessary, steps to balance the books in Wisconsin and get the state's fiscal house in order. I applaud him for it," stated RGA Vice Chairman Bob McDonnell.
"Here in Virginia we cut $6 billion out of our last two budgets and reduced state spending to 2006 levels. We did not raise taxes," McDonnell says.
"The result is a more efficient and streamlined government, and a more competitive and economically vigorous Commonwealth," RGA Vice Chairman Bob McDonnell said.
"I thank Scott for his leadership, it's what we need to see more of in every state capitol, and in Washington D.C.," McDonnell concluded.
"Republican governors across the country are making tough decisions about state budgets, and I commend Governor Walker for dealing with government sector wages and benefits," Governor Haley Barbour says in his brief statement seen on the website.
"It's good to know Governor Walker is watching out for the whole state, especially the people stuck with the bill: the taxpayers," Governor Barbour stated.
"While government-sector unions and powerful Democrats in Washington may prefer to keep the status quo in Madison, the need for reform is real," according to Governor Bobby Jindal.
"Governor Walker is demonstrating remarkable political courage and showing what real leadership looks like," Governor Jindal continued.
"I encourage Governor Walker to continue to stand tall and fight for the taxpayers," Jindal says.
The Republican Governors Association sponsored website supporting Governor Scott Walker's stand against Wisconsin Democrats, public employees, unions and other supporters of the protest in Madison, Wisconsin, is on the internet at http://www.standwithscott.com .
