Wisc. Assembly Democrats Support Workers And Families
WISCONSINREPORT.COM (02/17/2011) - Assembly Democrats entered the Assembly floor this morning wearing orange t-shirts reading Assembly Democrats FIGHTING FOR WORKING FAMILIES! Assembly Democratic Minority Leader Peter Barca says they joined together in support of working families, to send, what he calls, a powerful message to Governor Scott Walker. Barca also urges demonstrators in Madison and elsewhere to continue their peaceful protest over what Walker and Republicans are attempting.
"I am so proud to stand with working families across the state of Wisconsin today," Assembly Demcratic Minority Leader Peter Barca stated.
"In the most powerful show of unity in decades, we have joined together to send a powerful message to Gov. Walker and the entire state of Wisconsin," Barca continued.
"We support our working families. We support our teachers, nurses, snow-plow drivers, 911 operators, EMTs and all the working people that keep our great state functioning in both the public and private sectors," Barca said.
"I want to thank all the staff in the building who have shown patience and endurance," he said.
"I want to thank the many merchants and small business people who have shown their support by providing food and beverages for the tens of thousands of taxpayers in the Capitol this week," Aseembly Minority Leader Barca said.
"I would especially like to thank the Capitol Police force. I spoke with Police Chief Tubbs last night to thank him and his staff and the many other law enforcement agencies who are providing support this week," Barca went on.
"We also talked about how remarkable it is that with more than 30,000 people having assembled in a small area, how peaceful and friendly and courteous everyone has been to one another. This speaks volumes about our shared Wisconsin values," Barca confided.
"Over the course of this week’s historic Rally for Rights in Wisconsin, we have seen tens of thousands of people who have rallied peacefully to petition their government. We have been listening to testimony for 49 hours straight, pausing only for floor session today," Barca said.
"While the Republicans in the Joint Finance Committee cut off debate, we continue listening to their voices," Barca pointed out.
"We call on every citizen and taxpayer here, and assembling across Wisconsin, to continue the tradition of peacefully expressing their passionate opinions to their government. We assure you all – you are being heard. And we will stand united with the citizens and working families of our great state of Wisconsin," Democratic Assembly Minority Leader Peter Barca said.
