WISCREPORT.COM (10/22/07) - The Wisconsin Green Party is urging members and interested parties to travel to Chicago and participate in an upcoming Anti War Demonstration this weekend. The Wisconsin Green Party joins over 120 groups and coalitions in endorsing the October 27th Stop the War Now! rally in Chicago.
The Chicago rally is one of eleven regional demonstrations centered in Boston, Chicago, Jonesborough, Tenn., Los Angeles, New Orleans, New York City, Orlando, Philadelphia, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, and Seattle.
The Wisconsin Green Party, which opposed the war in Iraq since before the invasion, has repeatedly called for the immediate withdrawal of US troops from Iraq.
The coalition of groups endorsing the October 27th rally in Chicago calls for the United States to:
· Fund human needs, not the war;
· Stop the violence at home and abroad, no wider wars;
· Defend our civil liberties & immigrant rights;
· Bring all troops home NOW.
Wisconsin Greens will be joining other Wisconsinites on over 20 buses scheduled to carry participants to Chicago on October 27th. Greens from Wisconsin and Illinois will meet up at the rally.
"We were misled into this mess in the wake of 9/11 by an inept Administration that has no sense of public responsibility. Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction and nothing to do with 9/11,” said Merritt Bussiere, who will be representing the Kewaunee/Door WGP chapter in Chicago.
“Al Queda, which had zero presence in Iraq in 2003, has used the US occupation as a major program for recruiting terrorists there. Since the Fall 2006 elections, Congress has just started to hold this Administration more accountable, but we're still waiting for real leadership and action from our representatives to end the war," Bussiere says.
"The best way to support our brave men and women serving in Iraq is to get them out of this civil war and bring them home," according to Brussiere.
“Not one more death - not anyone’s children, not anyone’s grandchildren,” said Debbie Ruddock, representative of the Wisconsin Green Party Women’s Caucus, who will be making the trip to Chicago.
Buses are available from Green Bay, Manitowoc, Sheboygan, Milwaukee, Racine, Madison, Oshkosh, Wausau, Prairie du Chien, Dodgeville, and more.
