Wisconsin To Observe Vietnam Veterans Day March 29th
WISCONSINREPORT.COM (03/27/2012) - Vietnam Veterans Day will be observed in Wisconsin on Thursday, March 29, 2012, to honor and recognize those members of the U.S. armed forces who served during the Vietnam War era for their dedicated service, sacrifice and courage. The Wisconsin legislature designated March 29th as Vietnam Veterans Day in 2009 and mandated that the Governor proclaim Vietnam Veterans Day annually.
The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) has announced that there will be a brief ceremony held at the Wisconsin Veterans Museum gallery at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 29.
WDVA Secretary John A. Scocos along with Vietnam veteran Richard Lindbeck, President of the Wisconsin Department of Vietnam Veterans of America, will be the speakers at the ceremony. The proclamation by Governor Scott Walker will be read at the event, which is open to the public. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
Pursuant to 2009 Wisconsin Act 36, the State of Wisconsin designated that the Governor shall annually proclaim March 29th of each year as Vietnam Veterans Day in Wisconsin.
There were about 165,500 service members from Wisconsin who served during the Vietnam War. Of those, 1, 239 lost their lives.
