Over 300,000 Recall Walker Petition Signers In Wisconsin During First 12 Days
WISCONSINREPORT.COM (11/28/2011) - Wisconsin Democratic Party Chairman Mike Tate has confirmed that over 300,000 people have signed the Recall Governor Scott Walker petition. Which is the number also posted today on the UnitedWisconsin.com website. Tate told Ed Schultz on MSNBC that that many signatures were gathered during the first 12 days of the drive to get over 540,000 signatures statewide to force a statewide election to remove and replace the Republican governor.
The United Wisconsin website announcement agreed with the number Tate revealed on the Ed Schultz MSNBC Show:
"Since the recall of Scott Walker kicked off November 15th, dedicated volunteers have set up shop in every corner of the state," the UnitedWisconsin.com website announcement read.
A United Wisconsin spokesperson points out that the dedicated volunteers have been collecting signatures on street corners and near shopping malls, in addition to collecting signatures at County Democratic Party offices throughout the state.
The volunteers are knocking on doors and set up drive-through recall stations alongside busy roads, and have worked hard through the wind and the rain, the snow and the cold.
The recall effort must turn a minimum of 540,208 valid recall signatures over to the Government Accountability Board.
In Wisconsin, the number of valid signatures required to trigger a recall election is equal to 25% of the number of persons that voted in the last preceding election for the office of governor within the electoral district of the officer sought to be recalled. These signatures must be collected in a mere 60 days.
With 48 days remaining before the signatures must be turned over to authorities, organizers of the Recall Walker effort are feeling confident volunteers will be able to gain a sufficient number of signatures. The goal is to get more signatures than are required in case some invalid signatures, or duplicate signatures may occur.
